Additional Savings on DIRECTV and Internet

Since finalizing its acquisition of DIRECTV in 2015, AT&T has been able to offer competitively priced internet and TV bundles. Alongside those bundles come even more military discounts.

AT&T Also offers a $15 military discount on DIRECTV when you have an AT&T Unlimited StarterSM wireless plan.

How Does the AT&T Military Discount Compare to Other Cell Phone Provider Discounts?

The AT&T military discount plan offers a 25% savings on the unlimited plans.

Here are some other military discounts offered by major cell phone carriers:

Verizon Wireless Military Discount:

  • Discount: 15% off Eligible Plans, or up to $40 off Unlimited Plans; 25% off Accessories
  • Eligible Plans: Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited and Above Unlimited
  • Eligibility: Active Duty, Guard, Reserve, Retirees, Veterans, Family Members (when member is sponsor)
  • Learn More: Verizon Wireless Military Discount

T-Mobile Military Discount:

  • Discount: 20% on first line; Greater discounts for additional lines
  • Eligible Plans: T-Mobile Military One Plan (comparable to T-Mobile Magenta Plan)
  • Eligibility: Active Duty, Guard, Reserve, Retirees, Veterans, Family Members (when member is sponsor)
  • Learn More: T-Mobile Military Discount

Overall, the AT&T military discount is competitive with the other major cell phone providers in the US. The T-Mobile military discount is the most generous, coming in at 20% for the member, and an additional 50% savings on each additional line.

But AT&T has some benefits that T-Mobile does not, including the ability to bundle Internet, TV, and landline offerings, and in some areas, get better cell phone coverage.

AT&T’s Commitment to Veterans

In addition to offering generous discounts on their wireless plans, TV, and internet, AT&T is dedicated to enriching the lives of veterans, with a current initiative aimed towards hiring 20,000 veterans by 2020.

Below are a few of the ways AT&T seeks to thank and support past and present members of the armed forces:

  • Cell Phones for Soldiers: AT&T donates funds from recycled phones to this nonprofit dedicated to giving veterans and active duty military members access to free communication and emergency funds for phones. You can learn more about the organization’s work on their website.
  • Operation Hand Salute: Operation Hand Salute is AT&T’s own mentorship program that helps disabled veterans succeed in the business world.
  • Operation Phone Home: AT&T gives international phone cards to the USO’s Operation Phone Home program so military members can stay in touch with their families while serving.

AT&T is also working with the SkillBridge Fellowship Program to help veterans find new opportunities after the military. The program matches civilian opportunities to a service member’s training and experience and is open to any rank, enlisted or officer.

Bottom Line

AT&T demonstrates its dedication to seeing yesterday and today’s armed forces succeed at home and abroad with their hiring initiatives and their nonprofit partnerships.

But they also do so with competitive military discounts on their services.

Whether you want an unlimited data plan for your family, you’re looking to upgrade your entertainment with a DIRECTV plan, or you want to bundle in internet, AT&T’s military discounts give you access to some great savings.

With a 25% discount on its AT&T Unlimited StarterSM wireless plan and an opportunity to save an additional $15 on DIRECTV and $15 on internet coverage, AT&T could be your one-stop shop.

Hey Mark! At&T says they offer military discounts to qualified military veterans, including retirees!

  1. Margit I. Norwood says

As the widow of a deceased vet, I tried to get the AT&T military discount. Unfortunately, the military wallet information is incorrect. I was told that I’m not eligible for the discount because my husband is deceased.

However, I was eligible for an AARP discount.

    • Ryan Guina says

Hello Steve, you will need to work directly with AT&T’s customer service department. The good news is you can sign up for the military discount at any point. Best wishes!

  2. Paul says

I thought I switched to the veterans plan also to get 25% off my plan. After two months of my bill being the same, I called back and they (ATT) stated that only active military gets 25% off and veterans get 15% off. Called three times and got the same response each time. I did not actually go to an ATT store though. This was done over the phone.

  3. Mike says

I haven’t done it yet but, it seems, you need to take military ID to a store to get the discount. Can’t do it by phone.

  4. Stan says

After 8 days of dealing with AT&Ts runarounds and going through 6 people I finally found someone there that knew something about their Veterans Discount plan. Finally got my familys 5 lines transfered to the new plan. Veterans unlimited and more with home tv and home internet discount. Then came the oh..you want new phones on the BOGO well don’t believe them. You actually have to get new LINES (New numbers) in order to BOGO or get a free phone. What a Shame. So I upgraded 1 of my kids phones and then got a new number giving that to my youngest. When they arrived I then switched the sims to give the new phones to my wife and oldest kid (I hate Iphones). Moving all data and other info from their old phones to the new ones. Then giving my younger kids the older phones. So everyone is happy and have new phones except me that veterans who refuses to use anything made by Apple. Since it’s because of me we are able to get the new plan you would think that AT&T would at least try and help me upgrade my old Galaxy S7 to something newer. NOPE, They could care less. I even emailed corporate for fun. Still nothing came of it. Took me 8 days to get this transferred and I feel I did most of the work. If you going to switch watch out of the lies and other catches they don’t or won’t tell you about.

  5. Dave says

  8. Scott Mattison says

I give up on getting the 25% discount for veterans I was on the phone multiple times for hours dealing with customer service till they told me I was getting the discount it just was not showing up on my bill what a joke.

  9. rickey schafer says

on 2-2019 I called to see if I could get any discounts on my bill and the supervisor said there were none. I told her I am a Viet Nam vet on 100% disability they had no idea what I was talking about. Then I get on the interent and find out that they started the discounts in October of 2018. You better start training your people if they are doing their job.
